The PSNI has charged a woman with the murder of Patrick ‘Paddy’ Douglas in Ballymoney.
Mr Douglas died following a house fire in the Main Street area of the town on Tuesday morning.
The 55-year-old was rushed to hospital but later died of his injuries.
A woman was subsequently arrested on suspicion of murder.
On Friday evening detectives from the PSNI’s Major Investigation Team announced that a 34-year-old woman had been charged with murder.
She is expected to appear before Ballymena Magistrates Court on Saturday, July 5.
As is normal procedure, all charges are reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.
On Tuesday, a fire broke out around 7am which was attended to by police alongside Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service crews.
Paramedics were also called to the scene to transport Mr Douglas to hospital where he passed away.
DUP Councillor Darryl Wilson said the entire community was left “deeply saddened” by the tragic death.
He added: “Our heartfelt condolences go out to Paddy’s family and loved ones at this incredibly difficult time.”
Sinn Féin MLA Philip McGuigan also extended his sympathies to family and friends of Mr Douglas.
Tributes poured in for Mr Douglas with members of the local community saying he was a “well-known character” who would be missed by everyone in the town.
One man posted: “I’m saddened with this news, he was a good man with a heart of gold. Condolences to his family circle and friends.”
