Popular neighbourhood pizzeria, Il Capitano’s in Waterloo, is moving to a bigger venue after “out growing” its current location on St John’s Road. People in the area needn’t worry though, as the new restaurant is only round the corner.

Neighbours Jay Wilson and Florentin ‘Florrie’ Stefan, opened the popular Il Capitano’s on St John’s Road in Waterloo in September 2019, and have since used the restaurant to give the area an authentic taste of Naples. The pair pride themselves on using the freshest possible ingredients and staying true to the Neopolitan style of pizza.

At Il Capitano’s, all pizza dough is prepared on-site and fermented for at least 24 hours. The oven reaches 500 degrees, the pies are cooked in under 90 seconds, and the chefs only use San Marzano tomatoes – which are specifically grown in a designated area near Naples.

The menu includes traditional Italian starters, Neapolitan pizza, fresh pasta, Italian desserts, spritzes, wine and beer.

The restaurant, which has both indoor and outdoor dining areas, has a marine/naval theme, reflecting the maritime histories of Liverpool and Naples.

Announcing the move on Instagram today, alongside a video of the new site on Crosby Road North, Il Capitano’s said: “THE SECRET IS OUT! Waterloo’s worst kept secret, that is.

“So we are moving. Don’t worry – literally right around the corner! This opportunity feels so natural to us as we feel we’ve out grown our beloved St John’s Road spot and are ready to give you more.

“For years we’ve wanted to offer you more and now it’s becoming reality.

“More covers, more pastas, more sides, more takeaway options, more beer, more wine, more cocktails, [a] bigger space, live DJs – and oh, did we mention we’ve got the bar next door too?
