A popular Birmingham restaurant has permanently closed, with bosses saying it was ‘a difficult decision’.

We visited the restaurant and were told ‘it is closing’ but hasn’t closed yet.

A spokesperson for NWTC, who are responsible for The Botanist, said: “We have made the difficult decision to close our Birmingham, Temple Street site. This decision has not been taken lightly, but we believe is in the best interests for the overall health of the business. This closure only affects our Temple Street site.

“We’d like to take this opportunity to thank all our customers for their support and custom over the years and we hope to welcome them to our other Birmingham site located at Gas Street Basin, soon.”

It’s been a challenging year for Birmingham’s restaurants, pubs and bars with many having to shut their doors due to increasing pressures.

Tapas Revolution closed in Grand Central back in January and Roadhouse Diner shut up shop in Tyseley in February.

By March, Bodega Cantina closed down on Bennetts Hill and Bistrot Pierre confirmed it had closed eight restaurants across the country.

Chai Ra cafe also closed in March after six years on Kings Heath High Street and last month it was revealed that Wingers Taproom was up for sale.
