There needs to be greater accessibility to lifesaving EpiPens for people living with severe allergies, that’s the strong view of Councillor Dara Mulvey.
The Ballymote/ Tubercurry Fine Gael councillor believes they should be available in public spaces alongside defribilators.
Anaphylaxis, a potentially fatal allergic reaction, affects more than 1 in 10 people in Ireland who suffer severe allergies, and can be treated with EpiPens in the case of serious reactions.
Councillor Mulvey says that for those at risk, access to an Epipen can mean the difference between life and death.
However, the current availability and affordability of EpiPens can be an issue of concern, leaving many vulnerable individuals, particularly children, low-income families and those in remote areas at significant risk.
He is now urging the Minister for Health to prioritise the expansion of EpiPen availability as a matter of public health and safety. He is also calling for greater public awareness about anaphylaxis and emergency response protocols.
He has been outlining his view to Midwest News Editor Teresa O’Malley…
