Ethan Galbraith is finishing off a Swansea City medical today (Friday) as he finalises a £1.5million move from Leyton Orient, sources have told Football Insider.
The Welsh club have won the race to sign the 24-year-old ahead of Championship rivals Sheffield United, after the Blades missed out on promotion to Sunderland in May’s play-off final defeat.
Orient have accepted a bid from Swansea for Galbraith and he has been given the green light to head west and complete the transfer, after two successful seasons since arriving at London Road in 2023.
Football Insider revealed last month that both Sheffield United and Swansea were racing to sign Galbraith after his impressive campaign for Orient, and the Swans’ £1.5m bid has won that race.
Galbraith made 51 appearances in all competitions for the O’s last season and scored six goals from central midfield, as Richie Wellens’ side also lost in the League One play-off final to Charlton.

Swansea’s interest in Galbraith is long-standing and Football Insider revealed that they had a £1m offer rejected by Orient before Luke Williams’ sacking in February, but the Swans’ efforts have now won out.

Chris Wilder’s sacking at Bramall Lane came after Sheffield United registered their interest in Galbraith, and Alan Sheehan’s Swansea have since stepped up their own efforts to sign the midfielder.
Football Insider also revealed on 19 June that a £1.5m bid from Huddersfield had been knocked back by Orient, but they have now permitted Galbraith to make the jump from League One to the Championship.
Sheffield United sacked Chris Wilder after their 2-1 loss in the play-off finalSheffield United still reeling after Sunderland heartbreak
With 92 points accumulated over a 46-game season and their Wembley defeat only coming with one of the last kicks of the game they had dominated, Sheffield United’s actions since have been baffling.
Wilder’s sacking and the subsequent arrival of Ruben Selles has been slammed by Blades fans, and they now look set to miss out on a Northern Irish international who finished in 11th, 29 points behind them.
Gustavo Hamer remains on the radar of Premier League clubs like Leeds United after their promotion at Sheffield United’s expense, and the Blades soon won’t even be able to replace Hamer with a player of Galbraith’s quality.
