The Beeston Hill area has the worst deprivation levels in the city and is one of the most impoverished in the country, according to the 2019 Index of Multiple Deprivation. It’s the 38th worst area for deprivation in the UK.

Nasir said: “I’ve owned this place for 16 years. This was a barber shop before me, there was an old man working here. I was looking for a place and this was up for rent, so I got it! I was living around here, that’s why.
“I put myself into the trade, into this work and I like cutting hair. We give people a good haircut and we put our time into our business, and our prices are quite reasonable.”

Gents haircut are £8, a skinfade is £10 and a child’s haircut is £7. The barber has said that longstanding success requires more of a personal touch and going the extra mile for customers.
Nasir said: “Sometime I’ll go to people’s houses when they call me, like elderly people and those who have newborn babies. So, I’ll go to there house.”
He went onto add that being friendly and chatty is the ‘key reason’ behind his success. Nasir said: “This is a key reason. When people come here, I give them eye contact, tell them to have a seat and I ask them how they are. Sometimes we talk, if I know them, then we’ll talk.
“Beeston is very safe to work. If people do their job honestly and are not doing anything wrong, then it is safe. If the people are doing good then good things happen to them.”
