Archie Gray joined Tottenham last summer from Leeds United, and he has now been followed to North London by a familiar face.

Gray was regarded as one of the best young talents at Leeds and played a significant role for Spurs last season following his high-profile move from West Yorkshire.

Tottenham threw the youngster into a lot of first-team action after an injury crisis, and the 19-year-old was forced to play out of position for most of the campaign.

Spurs have also been linked with Archie’s younger brother, Harry Gray, and the Lilywhites have now completed the signing of another player who recently left Leeds.

Spurs have now confirmed the signing of Max McFadden for the Under-21s, following his departure from Leeds this summer.

McFadden, who has also spent time in the West Ham academy, was Gray’s agemate at Leeds, and the attacking midfielder has now reunited with his former teammate.

The teenagers will play in separate teams, though, with McFadden set to strengthen the Under-21s, while Gray will continue to be part of the first team under Thomas Frank.

Commenting on McFadden’s Instagram post (4 July), Gray wrote “Go on the boy,” and is clearly happy with the move.

Gray can improve next season

Some fans are sceptical of Gray given the difficulties he faced under Ange Postecoglou, and while he was part of the England Under-21 side which just won the Euros, the Tottenham star fell down the pecking order for his country.

However, it appears likely that Gray will improve next season. Having been forced to fill in at centre-back, the versatile youngster could return to his natural midfield position, and in a more stable team under Frank, he could shine.

The teenager was very highly rated at Leeds, and Spurs fans will hope that he can eventually justify the huge fee spent on bringing him in last summer instead of a more experienced player.
