Sunday, July 6, 2025

Marriott has officially launched its first property in Scotland under its Luxury Collection brand, marking a significant expansion of the prestigious collection in Europe. The Edinburgh Grand, a Luxury Collection Hotel, occupies a prominent location in the heart of Edinburgh’s New Town, housed within the iconic former headquarters of the Royal Bank of Scotland. The 1940s neo-classical building is situated on St Andrew Square, a prime area just a five-minute walk from Edinburgh Waverley station, offering guests both historic charm and convenient access to the city’s top attractions.

The Edinburgh Grand offers 50 luxurious rooms and suites, thoughtfully designed for extended stays. Each room comes fully equipped with kitchen facilities and a dining area, providing guests with the freedom and flexibility to live comfortably during their time in the city. The stylish interiors balance modern design with elements reflecting the hotel’s rich history. Guests can expect vibrant color accents and a mix of textures, creating a welcoming atmosphere that combines contemporary luxury with timeless elegance.

In addition to its comfortable accommodations, The Edinburgh Grand boasts a variety of high-end dining and drinking spaces. The Register Club, the hotel’s signature bar and restaurant, offers a refined setting where guests can enjoy an extensive menu and expertly crafted cocktails. For those craving a steakhouse experience, Hawksmoor brings its renowned cuisine to Edinburgh, while Lady Libertine, a Mediterranean-inspired restaurant and bar, provides a chic yet relaxed venue for dining and socializing. The hotel is also equipped with two versatile events rooms, catering to both corporate and social gatherings, and a state-of-the-art fitness center for guests to maintain their wellness routines. A spa facility is also in the works and will be a major addition once the second phase of the refurbishment is completed later this year.

One of the most unique features of The Edinburgh Grand is its restored bank vault, which has been repurposed to host private events and whisky tastings. This historical element adds an authentic touch to the hotel, offering guests a chance to experience Scotland’s world-famous whisky culture in an exclusive setting.

The renovation of The Edinburgh Grand was completed in two distinct phases. The first phase concentrated on refreshing 33 rooms and several key areas throughout the hotel. The design featured striking color schemes and a mix of textures, highlighting the building’s unique architectural features. This phase also included major enhancements to the front foyer, executive lounge, The Register Club bar and restaurant, and the retail space. Furthermore, the fitness center received a major upgrade with state-of-the-art equipment, providing guests with a modern, fully equipped space to maintain their fitness routines.

The second phase of the refurbishment, which is scheduled for completion later this year, will see the remaining rooms refurbished to match the hotel’s luxurious aesthetic. A new spa offering is also planned, promising to elevate the overall guest experience by offering relaxing and rejuvenating treatments.

To further elevate the experience, The Edinburgh Grand has introduced a number of bespoke services and amenities. These include an in-room, made-to-order omelette breakfast service, tartan pyjamas for children, and a 24-hour concierge service to assist guests with any needs during their stay. These thoughtful touches are designed to ensure that each guest receives a personalized and memorable experience that goes beyond traditional luxury.

Marriott’s move to add The Edinburgh Grand to its Luxury Collection portfolio is a strategic step in expanding its footprint in Edinburgh. This launch follows the recent opening of Old Town Chambers, an Autograph Collection hotel, on July 1, 2025. Additionally, Marriott is set to further enhance the city’s appeal to luxury travelers with the upcoming debut of The Colourist on Princes Street, which will join the Tribute Portfolio brand in 2027.

The Edinburgh Grand not only offers an exceptional place to stay but also serves as a testament to Marriott’s commitment to preserving and celebrating the heritage of iconic buildings while delivering modern, world-class hospitality. This launch marks the beginning of an exciting chapter for Marriott’s Luxury Collection in Scotland, promising to set new standards for luxury stays in the city.
