Team USA defeated New Zealand handily on Saturday 120-64 in the FIBA U19 World Cup semifinals to advance to the gold medal game.
Arizona commit Koa Peat had only seven points, going 2-for-6 from the field along with 3-for-5 from the free throw line. He added six rebounds, an assist and one steal to his totals in 13:46 minutes of work.
Five-star prospect Caleb Holt added a team high 20 points on seven rebounds.
Peat continues his world cup campaign averaging 49.2 percent from the field on 30-for-61 shots, while only shooting 61 percent from the free throw line. He’s accumulated 76 total points while leading the team in both accumulated rebounds with 39, and averaging rebounds per game with 6.5.
Team USA as a collective forced 21 turnovers on Saturday. The U.S. side has defeated each of their opponents by double figures when averaging 20 or more turnovers per game.
Tommy Lloyd leads the charge
Tommy Lloyd will lead USA U19 basketball as they take on Germany on Sunday for a chance at the gold medal, something the USA has not done since 2021. Team USA did not medal in the 2023 tournament after losing out to Spain, France and Turkey, with Spain winning the gold that year.
The Arizona head coach will have a shot at more FIBA gold, after leading the U18 USA squad to a gold medal in Buenos Aires in 2024.
Lloyd took over the U19 team in January after replacing Colorado head coach Tad Boyle.
How to watch:
The Gold Medal game will take place in Lausanne, Switzerland at 11 a.m. MST. That can be found on the FIBA basketball YouTube channel.
