Popular BBC sitcom Such Brave Girls is back with a second series and it looks set to be another huge hit with fans.

The TV drama debuted back in November 2023 and received rave reviews from viewers and critics. The second instalment landed on BBC iPlayer on 3 July, consisting of six episodes.

Created by Kat Sadler, Such Brave Girls follows single mother Deb (Louise Brealey) and her two adult daughters, Josie (Kat Sadler) and Billie (Lizzie Davidson).

Deb is trying to rebuild her life with boyfriend Dev (Paul Bazely), while Josie and Billie are tackling dilemmas of their own, such as mental illness, sexual identity and toxic relationships.

The series, directed by Simon Bird, also stars Sam Buchanan, Carla Woodcock, Amy Trigg and Keith Evans.

The BBC describes the plot of Such Brave Girls with the synopsis: “The series follows Josie (Kat Sadler), her sister Billie (Lizzie Davidson) and their mother Deb (Louise Brealey), risking everything they’ve got for a single scrap of love and adoration.

“Still desperately trying to escape the reality of their cramped, crumbling, debt-ridden home, it’s a good thing Dev (Paul Bazely) and Seb (Freddie Meredith) are coming to the rescue.

“As the dysfunctional family members navigate new relationships, and some old ones that just won’t go away, the return of Such Brave Girls is a hilariously dark descent into more terribly thought-out life choices. Secrets are spilled, disasters multiply and deluded fantasies spiral out of control. This series the stakes are even higher for our relentlessly tragic family.”

The first series of Such Brave Girls boasts an impressive score of 100 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, and it seems the second season could be just as popular.

The Guardian’s review of the new offering described it as a “total knockout”, branding it a “perfectly portioned comedy”.

Elsewhere, The Independent praised the show, describing it as “bleakly funny” and “refreshingly realistic” in a glowing review.

The Financial Times appeared to agree, calling Such Brave Girls “unremittingly bleak and funny”, while The Sydney Morning Herald branded it the “best comedy in years”.

Such Brave Girls can be watched on BBC iPlayer.
