The family of a dad-of-two who died in a collision have paid an emotional tribute, describing him as someone who “will be profoundly missed by all who knew him”. Officers for Gwent Police attended a report of a road traffic collision in Firbank Avenue, Newport at around 3.50pm on Thursday, April 10.

They said Travis Powell, a 29-year-old motorcyclist from Newport, was pronounced dead at the scene. Gwent Police are appealing for witnesses after the crash that involved a Mini Cooper and a motorcycle.

Mr Powell’s family has paid tribute, thanking everyone for their “love and support”, whilst describing how they have been left broken hearted.

The tribute reads: “It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Travis Powell, who left us far too soon at the age of 29.

“A cherished son, loving brother, devoted partner, and doting father to two beautiful girls, Travis was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.

“We thank everyone for their love, support, and understanding during this difficult time.

“Funeral arrangements will be shared at a later date.”

A statement from Gwent Police read: “At this time, the family kindly ask for privacy and space to grieve this unimaginable loss.

“Enquiries into the collision are still ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact us via the website, call 101 or DM us on our Facebook or X, quoting log reference 2500113746.”

A statement released by the police at the time of the crash read: “The collision involved a Mini Cooper car and a motorcycle. The rider, a 29-year-old man from Newport, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

“His family have been notified, and specialist officers continue to support them.

“Officers are asking for anyone with information, including CCTV or dashcam footage, to contact us.

“They would also like to speak to driver of a red Volkswagen Transporter van who was travelling behind the vehicles involved, and may have information to aid in the investigation.”
