The Mangaluru Regional Office of Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has set a target of enrolling about 25,000 new members under the new Employment-Linked Incentive (ELI) scheme for first-time employees. The scheme will come into effect from August 1, said Rajib Mukherjee, Mangaluru Regional PF Commissioner, on Monday.
Mr. Mukherjee said that under the new scheme, first-time employees will receive one month’s wage up to ₹15,000, while employers will receive an incentive of up to ₹3,000 per month per additional employee.
The incentive for employers will be in effect for two years, and in the case of the manufacturing sector, the incentive will be extended for another two years.
Mr. Mukherjee said the ELI scheme was announced in the 2024-25 Union Budget. It will be applicable to employment created between August 1, 2025, and July 31, 2027. Employees with a monthly salary of up to ₹1 lakh will be eligible for the incentive. The employee will get an EPF wage of up to ₹15,000 in two instalments. The first instalment will be payable after six months, while the second instalment will be payable after 12 months of service.
Establishments registered with EPFO were required to hire at least two additional employees if the number of employees was less than 50, or five additional employees if the number of employees was 50 or more. Taking additional employees should be sustained for a period of at least six months, he said.
Mr. Mukherjee said the regional office has planned to reach out to 2,500 firms and organisations in Dakshina Kannada this financial year. The EPFO will hold camps and other awareness programmes about the ELI scheme during the year, he said.
