Manchester United have been working on making Bryan Mbeumo their second signing of the summer transfer window since last month. However, there could be another new face through the door before then if emerging reports come to fruition.
The Reds launched an opening bid worth £55million for the 25-year-old at the start of June, before an improved proposal at the valuation of more than £70million was also rebuffed.
Mbeumo is understood to be ready to join United, but the two clubs remain locked in negotiations. However, with Ruben Amorim and his players back at Carrington this week for the start of pre-season, there are frustrations at the lack of movement in signing Mbeumo.
United have other top priorities in the transfer window with a new striker also needed. Viktor Gyokeres is edging closer to a move to Arsenal, leaving Amorim and Jason Wilcox at square one in that pursuit.
However, some encouraging signs in United’s transfer business have now emerged from Europe. Calcio Mercato journalist Daniele Longo dropped the news that United were close to signing Valencia midfielder Javi Guerra, who has previously been linked with AC Milan.
Marca in Spain have followed that up by claiming that Valencia are due to hold a meeting with Guerra’s agent on Thursday to resolve his future. The report has added that a decision won’t be made on his future until the meeting.
Valencia are believed to be keen on renewing the 22-year-old’s contract. The La Liga side only owns 70 per cent of his economic rights, the other 30 per cent belonging to Villarreal, the club he was at previously.
A fee of €20million (£17.2million) is understood to be a minimum fee for Valencia to consider a move. Any move is likely to be cleared following the planned meeting.
