A group of talented Hampshire teenagers will be the youngest performers on the line up at this year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe in a play they have written and composed themselves.

The 13 to 17-year-olds, all pupils at Embley in Romsey, have secured a coveted place on the programme next month with Wilde, which tells the untold story of Constance, the wife of Oscar.

Wilde is a labour of love; written, composed and performed by the gifted group of drama students, who have worked hard on the huge project to put on a world premiere after forming the Tír na nÓg Theatre Company.

A captivating new musical, Wilde is a tale of courage, loyalty and love, revealing the resilience of the incredible woman who stood alongside one of literature’s greats, and the scandal that destroyed them both.

Inspired by Franny Moyle’s 2011 biography of Constance Wilde, the young members of the theatre company felt compelled to present Constance’s unique tale as their debut Fringe performance.

With support from Oscar and Constance Wilde’s only grandchild, Merlin Holland, and the wider Wilde estate, they have developed a moving and honest portrayal of an extraordinary woman that is sure to delight Fringe audiences this summer.

The intimate portrayal of Constance is brought to life through poignant songs and rich storytelling.
