Parents at a Liverpool nursery were told to pick up their children early this morning after a hoax call which police are now investigating. Holyrood Nursery, situated on Princes Dock, phoned parents this morning asking them to pick up their children as soon as possible after Merseyside Police advice.

A police car remained stationed outside late this morning, and parents were still arriving to collect children. Valentina Candelori was there this morning, picking up her son following the call from the nursery. She told the ECHO that Holyrood Nursery had phoned her to say that she should pick her son up, as the nursery had received a phone call from the police to advise them that parents should be called to collect their children.

Police later confirmed a hoax call had been received, and that a call had also been made to Belvedere Academy near Princes Park. The ECHO received a number of reports from members of the public about the reports.

A Merseyside Police spokesperson said: “We can confirm we are investigating hoax calls reported at Belvedere Academy and Holyrood Nursery in Liverpool this morning, Tuesday 8 July.

“Just after 8.35am today, we received a report that a threatening email sent to the school and nursery on Monday evening had been seen this morning.”

Enquiries are ongoing into the incident, but officers attended both premises and found nothing suspicious.

Inspector Laura Chandler said: “Not only do messages such as this show a total disregard for the feelings of children and staff, as well as parents – they divert officers from genuine emergencies where people need us most.

“The courts take incidents such as this very seriously and we are working to find those responsible and bring them to justice.”
