Leeds United have made Gabriel Gudmundsson their fourth signing of the summer transfer window.
It’s been a positive transfer window so far for Leeds United, even if Sunderland did beat them to Habib Dairra and other targets, as they prepare for their return to the Premier League.
Lukas Nmecha was the first new arrival on a free transfer, while centre-back pairing Jaka Bijol and Sebastiaan Bornauw were recruited for a combined £20m.
Now, Daniel Farke has taken further steps to enhance his defence by signing Gabriel Gudmundsson from French side Lille, subject to a work permit and international clearance.
Gudmundsson is a like-for-like replacement for Junior Firpo, with the left-back choosing to leave Elland Road upon the expiration of his contract.
Firpo set up 10 goals and scored four himself in the Championship and played a major role in the 100-point title triumph.
Replacing him was one of Farke’s biggest tasks in the transfer window and he has succeeded with the arrival of the Swedish international.

Gudmundsson first emerged as a target in June and Leeds United News learned that talks between the club and player were accelerating towards an agreement last week.

With personal terms all but settled, Leeds still had to agree a fee with Ligue 1 side Lille, with figures as low as £8m quoted.
However, it’s reported by Santi Aouna of Foot Mercato that the actual fee Leeds will pay is slightly higher at around £10.3 million (€12m).
That takes Leeds’ total spending in the transfer window to just over £30m, though the club have announced the fee officially as undisclosed.
Given reports suggest Farke will have over £100m to spend on new players this summer, that leaves a lot of room in the budget for a striker, midfielder and goalkeeper.
Gabriel Gudmundsson contract details
Leeds have confirmed that Gudmundsson has put pen to paper on a four-year deal with the club.
That will keep the 26-year-old at Elland Road until 2029, which could see him spend the rest of the peak years of his career in Yorkshire.
According to Swedish journalist Anel Avdic, Gudmundsson will earn around £70,000 a week at Leeds, or 50m kronor per year.

It is unclear if that wage is before or after tax, or if it is net pay or gross pay, but it still represents a massive pay rise for the player.
It also immediately puts Gudmundsson among the highest earners in the Leeds squad.
