Marcus Rashford reported back for training at Carrington on Monday and Tuesday despite being one of five players given extra time to explore a move away from Manchester United.

Rashford worked on an individual basis and did not take part in team training with the rest of Ruben Amorim’s squad, the majority of whom returned on Monday to begin preparations for the 2025-26 season.

United said last Friday that the returns of Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, Antony and Tyrell Malacia would be delayed until later in July to allow them to settle their uncertain futures, with all five out of favour under Amorim.

Medical and rehabilitation services at Carrington have remained available to the players during their period of extended leave, however, in the event they wish to use them.

Despite claims by club sources on Friday that all five had asked to leave United, some of the players’ camps have denied this and say they would have been happy to return to training with the rest of the squad.

Rashford was also stripped of United’s No. 10 shirt, which will be worn by Matheus Cunha following his £62.5million signing from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

After spending the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa, Rashford is prioritising a move abroad if he leaves United this summer and is open to either leaving on loan or in a potential swap deal.

The 27-year-old is an option for Barcelona, who saw their pursuit of Nico Williams collapse last week, although Liverpool’s Luis Diaz is also of interest.

United are likely to need to raise funds through sales before investing further in their squad beyond the pursuit of Brentford winger Bryan Mbeumo, their priority target.

United’s pre-season schedule begins with a friendly against Leeds United in Stockholm on July 19, before Amorim’s squad travel to the United States to take part in the Premier League Summer Series.
