  • New York’s The Lot Radio will open its doors to the public this week after nearly eight months.

In an Instagram post, the independent station confirmed that city officials (including the Office of Nightlife, Department of Health and Department of Buildings) approved the reopening of its café. Starting Friday, July 11th, the kiosk will be open daily.

The café and seating section has been shut since October 2024, when city authorities ordered the closure amid a slew of health code violations. The Brooklyn institution, housed in a restored shipping container, continued radio programming during this period—DJs could play in the booth—but the overall space was closed.

Last year, founder François Vaxelaire told Resident Advisor that the citations didn’t stem from sanitary issues or health hazards. They were “the result of us applying for major renovations and being in a temporary undetermined status with New York City’s Department of Buildings,” he said.

In their new statement, The Lot urged visitors to support the grand reopening on July 11th. “For everyone who asked how they can help, here is your chance: come for the reopening, come back the next day, and the next and the next.”
