Red Route One Goes To Narvick International For $550,000 At Fasig-Tipton July Sale, Stud Plans Pending originally appeared on Paulick Report.
Multiple graded stakes winner Red Route One’s next stop will be the stud barn after selling to bloodstock agent Emmanuel de Seroux’s Narvick International for $550,000 on Tuesday at the Fasig-Tipton July Horses of Racing Age Sale, though where that stud barn will be remains up in the air.
The 5-year-old son of Gun Runner has been a steady competitor for owner/breeder Winchell Thoroughbreds and trainer Steve Asmussen, winning six of 28 starts over four seasons of racing for earnings of $2,165,107.
Taylor Made Sales Agency consigned Red Route One, as agent.
De Seroux said the destination for Red Route One’s stud debut is still to be decided. After signing the ticket, the bloodstock agent with clients around the world said the purchase was on behalf of himself and a handful of investors.

“We don’t know yet,” de Seroux said. “We have many options for him, so we have to sit down and decide where he is going to go.
“He is by Gun Runner out of a Tapit mare and he made $2 million, like the auctioneer reminded us,” the agent continued. “He is a beautiful horse, so he has quite a lot of attributes to be a successful stallion, I think.”
Red Route One graduated in his second career start as a juvenile at Kentucky Downs. Despite getting his start on turf, he quickly established himself as a dirt standout in the Asmussen barn, starting with a third-place finish in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Futurity at Keeneland in his next start.
Utilizing his signature late-closing kick, Red Route One made some noise on the 2023 Kentucky Derby prep trail with runner-up efforts in the G3 Southwest Stakes and G2 Rebel Stakes at Oaklawn Park. However, he was held for the Preakness Stakes, earning an automatic berth to the second leg of the Triple Crown after winning the listed Bath House Row Stakes at Oaklawn. He finished fourth in the Preakness, then eighth in the Belmont Stakes, before finding the winner’s circle again in the G3 West Virginia Derby.
In later campaigns, Red Route One became a staple of Middle America’s handicap division, raking in wins in the G2 New Orleans Classic Stakes, the G3 Cornhusker Handicap, and most recently in the G3 Essex Handicap in March at Oaklawn Park. He entered the sale after finishing last of six in the Cornhusker at Prairie Meadows, just four days before going through the ring.
All the while, de Seroux said he’d been keeping an eye on the horse.
“I’ve seen him many times,” he said. “I saw him at the barn at Churchill Downs last year. I saw him in Saratoga.
“He was very consistent with some of the best horses in the country,” de Seroux continued. “He is always winning or placing in very good company. He’s a very tough racehorse with a lot of class. A good physical and by Gun Runner.”
Red Route One is out of the unraced Tapit mare Red House, making him a full-brother to Grade 2-placed stakes winner Red Run. Red House is herself a full-sister to champion Untapable and a half-sister to Grade 1 winner and sire Paddy O’Prado.
