Sheffield Wednesday’s latest announcement has led to a lot of mixed messages from supporters.

With Sheffield Wednesday still currently under a transfer embargo, the focus right now has been on players leaving.

Owner Dejphon Chansiri was planning a ‘fire sale’ to raise funds to help the club’s financial situation and exits are starting to happen.

Djeidi Gassama is close to joining Rangers, with personal terms now understood to have been agreed.

Elsewhere, Sheffield Wednesday are in negotiations with Southampton for compensation over Sutura Kakay.

Manchester City want to sign Romario Collins as well, with that deal thought to be close.

But while exits are the focus, a player will now be staying at Sheffield Wednesday beyond this summer.

George Brown on staying at Sheffield Wednesday

Brown made 27 appearances for the Yorkshire outfit during 2024/25.

He excelled in the Professional Development League and has now commented on his new deal with the club.

Brown said: “I’m very pleased.  Obviously being here last year, I got to know the club and the lads here and staying is definitely something I wanted to do.

“I played a lot of minutes last season and wanted to earn a new contract. I just wanted to focus on playing as much as possible and help the team.

“Turning professional was very different and a shock at first, although a good shock! Everything goes up a level, the intensity and the way you play.

“Everyone’s ambition is to get in the first team and train with them as much as possible. I want to play at the highest level I can.

“I made amazing friends with some of the lads and coaches, it feels like a place I can call home.

“Seeing lads who made the step up, it shows you can do it if you want to work hard, and that’s something I’m striving towards.”
