Leeds United are stepping up their pursuit of signing Illan Meslier’s replacement ahead of the 2025/26 season.

The Whites are keen on adding a quality goalkeeper to their ranks who can be the number one and help them avoid relegation from the Premier League.

Leeds United were keeping tabs on Vanja Milinkovic-Savic and even made contact with Torino for the keeper.

However, according to Radio CRC journalist Marco Giordano, that pursuit has now faded.

It’s understood that Perri is now the “top choice” for the Elland Road outfit this summer.

Napoli are prioritising Milinkovic-Savic and they can offer him Champions League football as well.

Post relegation to Ligue 2, a number of Lyon players have been linked with an exit and their 27-year-old stopper could also be leaving.

Giordano wrote on X: “Leeds set Lyon’s Lucas Perri as the top choice between the posts for next season. The pursuit of Milinkovic Savic fades, with Napoli able to negotiate with Torino.”

Perri will be a quality signing for Leeds United

Signing Perri could significantly boost Leeds United’s chances of avoiding relegation in the 2025/26 Premier League season.

The 27-year-old Brazilian goalkeeper has proven his quality with 10 clean sheets in 33 Ligue 1 matches last season, preventing 3.8 goals above expected.

His 6ft 5in frame, shot-stopping reflexes and improved build-up play address Leeds’ goalkeeping vulnerabilities exposed by Meslier’s errors.

Perri’s experience and athleticism could solidify the Whites’ defence, providing stability and confidence crucial for surviving the Premier League’s demands, especially against elite competition.

It remains to be seen what the next step in the pursuit is, as a formal offer needs to be made sooner rather than later.
