Liam Gallagher’s real name has taken fans by surprise as the Oasis brothers reunited after 16 years. Over the weekend, Liam and Noel Gallagher returned to stage for their highly anticipated reunion tour, while the focus was on their comeback – many fans were shocked to discover that Liam isn’t actually the singer’s real name.
As thousands chanted their names at the sold-out Principality Stadium in Cardiff, few realised that “Liam” is actually just a nickname – his full name is William John Paul Gallagher.
The Oasis legend was raised as “Liam” by his Irish parents, Thomas and Peggy – a common Irish shortening of William. His middle names, John and Paul, are a clear tribute to The Beatles, who inspired the Gallagher brothers’ iconic sound, the Mirror reports.
Liam and Noel made history as they stepped onto the stage hand in hand, greeted by deafening cheers from more than 75,000 fans who had waited nearly two decades for the long-awaited reunion.
On the second night, Liam let go of Noel’s hand and even bowed to him, prompting an eruption of chants and flying pints as they launched into Hello.
The duo maintained a united front throughout the weekend, but behind the scenes they’re reportedly staying separately to avoid any potential conflicts.
A source said: “They don’t want to over-expose themselves to each other having separate residences is the best option so they can relax in their own space. They stayed in separate locations outside the city around half an hour away from each other.”

Liam and Noel are playing ‘happy families at the moment’ and reportedly want to keep it that way. Both brothers are said to have changed their lifestyles to make it through the tour, with Liam ditching booze and getting eight hours’ of sleep every night.
Kicking off the tour, Liam shouted: “Manchester vibes in the area!” before singing into Hello, followed by Acquiesce and Morning Glory.
At one point he sarcastically told the crowd: “I see you’re all on the glue still down there!” Later, he had everyone link arms and “bounce” along to Cigarettes & Alcohol.

As the brothers performed, emotional family photos of their parents, Peggy and Tommy, and glimpses of their Manchester childhood lit up the big screens while Stand By Me played.
Later Liam joked: “Are you having a good time? Was it worth the £40,000 you paid for the ticket?” – a cheeky swipe at the controversy over skyrocketing prices, which ranged from £74.25 to £506.25 for pre-show events.
Throughout their sets, touching images of the Gallagher family home, baby photos of Liam and Noel, and vintage black-and-white snapshots of Peggy and Tommy appeared on screen, adding a nostalgic backdrop to the emotional performance.

The brothers wrapped up their long-awaited reunion with an encore of Wonderwall, taking a moment to thank fans for their unwavering support and sticking with them during the past 16 years.
Liam told the crowd: “Thanks for putting up with us over the years. We’re hard work. We get it.” Before they finished with the legendary Champagne Supernova, bringing the house down.
