Scotland may have missed out on the warmest of the weather so far this summer, with June being a bit of a damp squib at times north of the border.
But that is set to change this weekend with the Met Office predicting that millions of Scots could be basking in a heatwave over the coming days.
The national weather agency is forecasting highs of 30C in Glasgow on Saturday afternoon, which would make it the hottest day of the year so far, with 28.9C in Drumnadrochit on the shores of Loch Ness on June 20 the current record.
The best of the weather will be in the west of the country, with the area around our biggest city seeing the mercury at its highest. And those planning a trip to the seaside are in luck, as popular spots like Largs, Helensburgh, and Oban will also enjoy temperatures in the high 20s.
Certain parts of the north Highlands, like Altnaharra, will be at similar levels, along with much of Dumfries and Galloway and the Borders.
Edinburgh and Dundee will still bask in the low-to-mid 20s over the weekend, but Aberdonians appear unlikely to get weather that reaches beyond the high teens over the coming days.

The Met Office defines a heatwave as three consecutive days of temperatures above a heatwave threshold, which changes depending on the location and time of year.
For Scotland right now, that threshold sits at 25C. And with Glasgow expected to reach highs of 28C, 30C, and 26C on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, respectively, that would more than meet the criteria.
It certainly looks like it’s going to be a searing weekend for those attending TRNSMT at Glasgow Green, with the city basking in the mid-20s at 7pm each evening of the festival.

As well as the scorching temperatures, the pollen count is expected to be very high in Glasgow and the surrounding area as a hot blast comes in from the west.
Speaking about the coming weather, Met Office chief meteorologist Jason Kelly said: “High pressure from the Atlantic will lead to a build in temperatures over the coming days, with heatwave criteria reached by the weekend.
“Whilst temperatures are expected to build day on day, becoming widely hot, they are unlikely to surpass those recorded at the start of the month.
“This heatwave is expected to be longer lived and extend further north and west into a larger part of the UK than previously seen this summer.

“Temperatures are expected to peak over the weekend and ease early next week. They are expected to reach 30C in some areas today and exceed 30C more widely on Friday, with peak temperatures on Saturday of 33C possible in parts of England and Wales.
“Scotland is also expected to meet heatwave criteria over the weekend. This hot spell is forecast to last longer and cover a broader area than previous ones so far this summer and pollen and UV levels will be very high in some areas.”
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde have issued some health advice for those attending TRNSMT or just planning to make the most of the good weather in the west this weekend.
The health board has urged those heading out to make sure they spend some time in the shade and, when they are in direct sunlight, have appropriate clothing to cover up as well as being stringent with suncream application.
Staying hydrated is also key, while having painkillers like paracetamol and ibuprofen handy is also advised. And if you are having a barbecue in your back garden, make sure meat is cooked thoroughly to avoid food poisoning.
Dr Emilia Crighton, NHSGGC’s Director of Public Health, said: “This weekend is looking like a great time to get outside for warmer weather.
“No matter what you’re doing, please enjoy the good weather safely by protecting yourself when in the sun, staying hydrated, and having common medicines to hand.
“We know tens of thousands of people will be heading to TRNSMT, and we hope everyone has a fantastic time. We ask festivalgoers to look after themselves and others so everyone can enjoy the event safely.”
