Residents were woken up by loud bangs coming from a rubbish fire in the early hours of this morning (Thursday, July 10) in Bristol.

The arson attack was reported to the fire service shortly before 3am and was located on Bath Road, in Brislington.

The fire, which stemmed from a pile of rubbish, was thought to be caused deliberately, according to Avon Fire and Rescue.

Crews came from Hicks Gate to extinguish the fire.

A resident who was woken up by the blaze said he had heard a large bang before a flash of light came through his window.

He told Bristol Live: “I woke up to a big white flash following a loud bang out of my living room window.

“People from the neighbourhood came outside and questioned what was going on.

“Everyone was woken up by all the loud bangs.”

A spokesperson for Avon and Fire Rescue said: “Crews from Hicks Gate Fire Station responded to reports of a fire on Bath Road, Brislington at 2:56am on Thursday, July 10.

“Firefighters found a fire involving a large quantity of rubbish and safely extinguished the blaze.

“The cause of the fire is thought to be deliberate.”
