Another factor has emerged concerning the future of Danny Röhl at Sheffield Wednesday.

It was reported earlier this week that the German was preparing to come back to his role with the Owls after it became increasingly likely that a takeover deal could be completed within weeks.

This came as a huge shock, after Röhl made it clear in April that he wanted to exit Hillsborough before not returning for pre-season training.

However, the situation has taken yet another twist.

It has now been revealed that Sheffield Wednesday’s squad aren’t keen on Röhl remaining as manager.

As per the Sheffield Star, a meeting has taken place between the players and staff at their pre-season camp at St. George’s Park, regarding the German’s return.

The outcome was that they would prefer it if he didn’t come back, with the reasoning being that too much had happened since the end of last season, including his absence from the preparations for next term.

It’s reported that it is a substantial portion of the crop that wouldn’t welcome Röhl, which complicates matters even further for the Owls.

This comes after it was confirmed that Henrik Pedersen had agreed to extend his stay as assistant manager, with the expectation being that he would replace Röhl once the situation was finalised.

It is now reported that Pedersen’s decision has nothing to do with a potential return by the current Wednesday boss, with the two not in regular communication.

Röhl has been linked to clubs such as Southampton, Middlesbrough, RB Leipzig, Wolfsburg and Werder Bremen this summer, but he has been unable to find a new job due to his high release clause.

For a brief moment, there looked to be a glimmer of hope for Wednesday supporters after suffering such a nightmarish summer.

With news of a takeover imminent and Röhl set to remain in his position, there finally seemed to be an end to the madness at Hillsborough.

However, that now doesn’t seem to be the case, with the squad not keen to see Röhl remain in his position.

Time will tell how this situation is resolved, but it is yet another headache for the Owls to deal with this summer.
