The upcoming world premiere of Paddington The Musical has taken another exciting step forward with a newly announced casting call for two important supporting characters. Set to open at London’s Savoy Theatre on 1 November 2025, the production promises to bring the beloved bear from Peru to the stage in grand style.

Adapted from Michael Bond’s cherished children’s books and the hit StudioCanal films, the musical boasts a star creative team. Music and lyrics are by McFly’s Tom Fletcher, with a book by Olivier Award-winner Jessica Swale (Nell Gwynn). Direction is by Luke Sheppard, best known for & Juliet, Starlight Express and Just For One Day – The Live Aid Musical.

The show will follow Paddington’s iconic journey from darkest Peru to the heart of London, in search of a new home and a welcoming family. In keeping with its cross-generational appeal, the production is expected to feature original characters alongside fan favourites from the source material.

Producers have now put out a casting call for two youthful roles: Jonathan Brown, the youngest son in the Brown family, and Tony, a character adapted from the film series who is linked romantically to Judy Brown. For Jonathan, the team is seeking boys aged 10–12 with strong diction and movement skills to handle “fast and wordy” scenes. The role of Tony is open to Black or mixed race male performers aged 15 to 20, with a strong singing voice.

This casting update fuels anticipation for what is shaping up to be one of the West End’s most family-friendly highlights of the year. Further casting and production details are expected to follow over the coming weeks.

Casting is managed by Nicholas Hockaday of Hockaday Casting.
