Manchester United’s transfer pursuit of Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo may be affected by some deals elsewhere.
United are continuing to show an interest in signing Mbeumo this summer as one of their priority targets. Two bids have already been rejected by the Bees from United as the summer’s latest transfer saga remains ongoing.
The latest bid from United is believed to be in excess of £60million with add-ons. As things stand, no agreement has been reached between United and Brentford, but there is still confidence from Old Trafford that a deal can be completed this summer.
However, what may make negotiations more of a challenge for United is some other deals that have either been completed or look set to get over the line. Away from the speculation around Mbeumo’s future, Brentford look set to lose two other key members of their squad.
Midfielder Christian Norgaard has now officially completed a move to Arsenal on a permanent deal. The Gunners agreed to pay a total package worth in excess of £10million for the Denmark international.
Yoana Wissa is also a player that is attracting interest from several clubs this summer. Reports have speculated that both Tottenham Hotspur and Nottingham Forest are interested in signing the Brentford star, while Newcastle have also been mentioned as a potential destination for the £50million-rated 28-year-old.
The Athletic have reported that Forest have made an offer worth £25million for Wissa, which has been swiftly rejected by Brentford.
As a result, Brentford could go on to receive more than £60million from the sales of both Norgaard and Wissa this summer, if the latter does complete a move away from the Gtech Community Stadium. Should that happen, it would likely make negotiations for United more difficult.
With money in the bank, Brentford would not be under as much pressure to sell Mbeumo or accept a lower fee than they otherwise would prefer. Plus, with the Bees potentially losing Wissa and Norgaard in one summer, they would be forgiven if they do not want to see a third key player in Mbeumo depart in the same window.
