Here’s a roundup of some the main events taking place over the coming week in South Leeds. For full listings go over to our What’s On calendar here.
We start this week on Saturday morning with the Middleton Makers Market, 10am-2pm, at Middleton Park Circus. Lots of lovely handmade items including clothing, jewelery, soaps and food; all made by local people.
Trinity Network host their Community Reflections Café on Saturday 10am-12pm at the United reformed Church, Nesfield Avenue, Belle Isle, LS10 3LG
It’s The Hunslet Club’s Summer Gala on Saturday from 12-4pm with lots of fun, displays and performances. The gala is open to the whole community. The club is located on Hillidge Road, LS10 2BP.
Saturday sees Hunslet Nelson Cricket Club’s First XI take on Northowram Fields CC Second XI at their Gipsy Lane ground, LS11 5TT starting at 12pm. Then on Sunday at 1pm the First XI play Hanging Heaton CC, also at home.
There’s a women-only Ladies Bowling Competition being held at Holbeck Moor Bowling Club on Saturday afternoon from 3pm., followed by a music quiz. The club is on Cambrian Terrace, LS11 8LF. Men are welcome to spectate.
A satirical look at modern masculinity, Big Strong Man is being performed at Slung Low’s Warehouse in Holbeck, Crosby Street, LS11 9RQ on Saturday at 7:30pm. Book at www.slunglow.org/shows
On Sunday afternoon the Friends of Middleton Park present Yorkshire’s newest brass band, SoundTrack Brass, playing hits from stage and screen. 2-4pm on the bandstand near the visitor centre.
Breadcrumbs, is the latest work by family favourites Wronsemble. This retelling of the Hansel and Gretel fairy tale will resonate with anyone familiar with bickering siblings. You can see Breadcrumbs at Slung Low’s Temple outdoor space at 131 Water Lane in Holbeck, LS11 9UD, at 2pm on Sunday. Book at www.slunglow.org/shows
Also on Sunday, 4-5:45pm South Leeds Community Kitchen will be providing their monthly meal at St Mary’s Parish Centre, Town Street, Beeston, LS11 8 with an open invite to anyone in the community.
On Thursday Our Future Beeston are holding a gardening session at Beeston Village Community Centre, off Town Street, LS11 8DQ from 10am-12pm. Everyone welcome.
The SEN-Tastic group meets on Thursday. It’s open to anyone who cares for children with special needs, parents, siblings, carers, childminders and grandparents and offers coffee, friendship, advice and support. The group runs from 9:15-10:30am at St Luke’s Church, Malvern Road, Beeston, LS11 8PD.
And finally, Leeds Baby Bank will be at Dewsbury Road Community Hub & Library on Thursday 10am-12pm offering support to people to access support services, community activity and longer-term support. They also gift families an essential top-up of items like nappies, wipes, formula and toiletries.
