Germany is set to provide Ukraine with long-range missile systems, with the first batch of missiles financed by Berlin expected to be delivered to the Armed Forces of Ukraine by the end of July.
Major General Christian Freuding, head of the special Ukraine task force at the German Ministry of Defence, announced the development during an interview with ZDF. He oversees the coordination of Germany’s military assistance to Kyiv.
According to Freuding, Ukraine urgently requires missile systems capable of striking targets deep inside Russian territory, such as ammunition depots, command centres, and military airfields. Germany will financially support Ukraine in procuring these weapons.
An agreement between Ukrainian defence manufacturers and the Ministry of Defence was recently signed, marking the formal start of the programme, which was initiated at the end of May.
Major General Fröding added that the volume of long-range missiles supplied to Ukraine will reach the triple digits in the coming months, indicating a significant escalation in Kyiv’s strike capabilities.
