Twenty-five fire engines were involved in the emergency response on the Darent Industrial Park, with crews scrambled from Bexley and other surrounding stations.
Local residents were advised to keep their windows and doors closed due to the amount of smoke being produced.
Two 32-metre turntable ladders were deployed to provide a vantage point for assessing the scene and to deliver water from above.
A fire boat was also called to the incident.
The first 999 calls about the fire were made shortly after 10.45pm last night.
The cause of the blaze, which was brought under control by about 7am, is not yet known.
