Four people have been arrested following a series of burglaries and thefts in south Armagh.

The incidents are reported to have taken place in the Crossmaglen area during the early hours of Friday morning.

Two 20-year-old men and an 18-year-old man have been arrested on suspicion of burglary and theft of a vehicle.

A fourth man, aged 19, has been arrested on suspicion of burglary, obstructing police, handling stolen goods, interfering with vehicles, and theft of vehicles.

The suspects remain in custody at this time.

Sinn Féin MLA for Newry and Armagh, Aoife Finnegan, described the incidents as “extremely distressing.”

Local Sinn Féin councillor for Slieve Gullion, Martin Hearty, urged homeowners and residents to “be extra careful.”

“With the warm weather, people tend to leave their windows open, and this gives further opportunities for these gangs of thieves who target different areas.

He added: “I would urge everyone to be vigilant and alert to suspicious activity.”
