A man aged in his 20s was seriously injured in an early hours collision on the M62 motorway, police have revealed.

The motorway was closed for two hours early on Saturday between Milnrow and Rochdale, eventually opening again at 3am.

Greater Manchester Police said officers and emergency services were called to reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and a vehicle at around 12.30am.

A man in his 20s was found at the scene with ‘serious injuries’, police said, and taken to hospital, where he remained on Saturday.

No arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing.

Writing on social media, National Highways said westbound lanes were closed between junction 21 and 20 after the ‘serious collision’.

In a statement, GMP said: “At around 12.35am this morning (Saturday 12 July 2025), we were called to reports of a road traffic collision between a pedestrian and a vehicle on the M62 close to Milnrow.

“Officers attended the scene and located a man in 20s with serious injuries, he was taken to hospital for treatment where he currently remains.

“No arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing.”

No further details have been revealed.
