A large tree fell into the road after a van crashed into it.

Emergency services were called to the scene on on Canterbury Road in Urmston, Trafford, at about 11am today.

Pictures show the tree lying across the road and on the opposite pavement.

A witness said it was lucky no-one was seriously injured.

They added: “There is a fair on in the park right next to it so anything could have gone wrong.

“Nobody was hurt, thank God.”

Council staff are now working to remove the tree.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: “At around 11am this morning (Saturday), firefighters were called to reports of a crash on Canterbury Road in Urmston.

“One fire engine from Stretford fire station quickly arrived at the scene, where a van had crashed into a tree causing it to fall into the road.

“Thankfully there were no causalities and Trafford Council have been contacted to remove the fallen tree.

“Fire crews made the scene safe before handing over to Greater Manchester Police at around 11.25am.”
