A film production company is on the lookout for “Scouse prinnys” to feature in a new documentary shining a light on Liverpool and Wirral women.
French filmmakers at Barberousse Films are searching for women from the region who love getting glammed up for the weekend and who are “also hardworking and grounded in their everyday lives”. They’re hoping to cast individuals who are both striking and down-to-earth – the kind of people who are full of personality and proud of where they come from.
It’s a paid opportunity, and the team is keen to hear from “genuine, relatable individuals who reflect the energy and spirit of the region.” The project will be directed by Roisin Burns.
Barberousse’s last film, Wonderwall, was a huge success. It premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and featured several local people. The company says it’s hoping to once again offer something “meaningful and exciting” for the local community to be part of.
While the term “Scouse prinny” might sound playful, it’s become a badge of honour for many women in the city.
Typically used to describe young Liverpool women known for their love of fashion, full-glam makeup and bold personalities, “prinnys” are often spotted with rollers in their hair, a fresh fake tan, and a killer outfit – whatever the occasion.
But it’s about more than just appearance. The modern Scouse prinny is confident, sharp, fiercely loyal and completely unbothered by what anyone thinks.
Liverpool has long had a strong presence in reality TV and film, with local women regularly stealing the spotlight thanks to their humour, warmth and unapologetic confidence.
From Desperate Scousewives to Love Island, Scouse accents – and attitudes – have become staples of British TV.
It’s not just reality shows, either. Liverpool has become a go-to location for dramas and films, thanks to its waterfront, historic architecture and vibrant street life.
Productions like The Responder, Time and This City is Ours have all been filmed across the city, further proving its appeal to the creative industries.
What sets Liverpool apart is its sense of character – and that’s especially true when it comes to its women. Loud, proud and full of life, they’re often the stars of any scene they walk into. That natural charisma is exactly what makes them perfect for a project like this.
Casting for the documentary is currently open. Anyone interested in applying should get in touch with the production team directly.
So if you’re a proud Scouse prinny – or know someone who is – this could be the perfect opportunity to show the world what real glamour, graft and personality look like.
