The devastated family of Daniel Drewitt have paid tribute to their ‘handsome, funny and talented boy’.
Daniel, who was just 16, tragically died after getting into difficulty in Powell’s Pool in Sutton Park on Thursday evening, July 10.
For the first time, Daniel’s family have spoken about their immense loss, his caring nature and how they will miss his ‘cheeky smile.’

His family also released two poignant pictures of their beloved son.
One showed the Colmers School & Sixth Form College student dressed in a light grey three-piece suit paired with white trainers just before his prom night and the second showed him playing football.

In a statement his family said: “Daniel was a handsome, funny and talented boy who really cared about his friends and family.
“Everyone wanted to be his friend and he was popular because of the beautiful spirit he had.
“Daniel was a big Birmingham City Football Club fan and would love going to the games with his grandad and friends.

“He had so many dreams and aspirations, and he had his whole life ahead of him.
“He has been taken from us way too soon and we still can’t process what is happening right now.
“His family and friends are all devastated from this awful tragedy, and this will forever leave an everlasting pain in all of our hearts. We cannot put into words how much we will miss him and his cheeky smile.
“We want to thank the community for all of the kind messages, love and support. It has given us all comfort knowing just how loved he was by so many people and shows they all saw what we saw in him.
“Sweet dreams our beautiful boy. We know we will still see you every night. You will be the brightest star in the sky.”
West Midlands Police is continuing to support Daniel’s family.
His death is not being treated as suspicious and officers are liaising with the coroner.
Staff from his school said on Friday: “We are all deeply shocked and saddened by the loss of Daniel Drewitt, a Year 11 student at Colmers School, who tragically died yesterday evening.
“Daniel was a young man who brought light and character to our entire school community.
“He was confident, full of life, a talented sportsman, and so deeply loved by staff and fellow pupils alike. His warm presence and positive spirit will be sorely missed.
“We are doing all we can to support our school community during this incredibly difficult time.
“Our pastoral team, school counsellors, and senior staff are working together to provide dedicated spaces and support for both students and staff.
“This includes opportunities for quiet reflection, one-to-one conversations, and access to emotional and wellbeing support throughout the days and weeks ahead.
“We know how deeply this loss will be felt by many, and we are committed to ensuring no member of our school community feels alone in their grief.
“Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with Daniel’s family.”
