Yates County has announced a new partnership with Prattsburgh-based Empire Access as part of an application for the first round of the USDA’s ReConnect Program. The collaboration aims to expand access to high-speed fiber internet across the county, with a focus on reaching underserved areas.

If the application is approved, Empire Access will install state-of-the-art fiber infrastructure throughout Yates County, delivering fast, reliable broadband to both residents and businesses. The initiative is expected to support economic development, remote work, business growth, and improved quality of life.

“We’re proud to partner with Yates County to help bridge the connectivity gap,” said Empire Access CEO Kevin Dickens. “Reliable internet is essential for progress and growth, and our goal is to ensure every resident and business in the county can benefit from top-tier connectivity.”

Jessica Bacher, President & CEO of the Yates County Chamber of Commerce, echoed that sentiment: “This partnership is a game-changer. High-speed internet is no longer a luxury—it’s a necessity for local businesses, remote workers, families, and students.”

As part of their outreach efforts, Empire Access is hosting a pop-up table at the Yates County Fair this week. Representatives will be on hand to answer questions about the company’s services, explain the impact of fiber internet, and assist new customers in signing up.

The USDA’s ReConnect Program aims to bring broadband to rural communities that lack adequate service. The partnership between Empire Access and Yates County represents a major step toward closing the digital divide in the region.
