Sheffield Wednesday are looking more likely to be taken over, but fans will only be glad to see the back of Dejphon Chansiri if his successor delivers one key thing.
The sale of Sheffield Wednesday is at an advanced stage, with one party agreeing a fee with Dejphon Chansiri.
It has been reported that Francesco Guardascione is heading up a consortium with an interest in acquiring the club.
Guardascione’s history involves a series of missed payments in other ventures, which understandably makes him a less attractive successor to Chansiri.
Nonetheless, because of the issues that Sheffield Wednesday have faced regarding payment to players and staff this summer, a takeover is needed sooner rather than later.
For the person or party that carries the torch after Chansiri, there won’t be vast expectations for significant amounts of money to be spent, but there is one demand that supporters hold that should never be broken.

Since Covid, Sheffield Wednesday have been littered with financial issues stemming from Dejphon Chansiri.
In truth, it has been a difficult period for the club, and fans would have sympathy for Chansiri after what was a troubling time for everyone, but ultimately, a lack of transparency from the top made no room for that.
Sheffield Wednesday fans were consistently belittled in the years to come, with supporters’ meetings often descending into chaos. Owls supporters consistently asked the questions to Chansiri about “when he would sell the club”, “how much is his evaluation”, or simply, “what is the financial situation at the club.” Fans were asked, in retaliation, “Do you own a business?”
Supporters have been treated like customers at their own club, which explains the vastly high prices that were set for season and match tickets, particularly post-COVID. It wouldn’t surprise Sheffield Wednesday fans to know that, in the 2025/26 season, they have the most expensive season tickets in the EFL.

The foundations will need to be laid by any incoming Sheffield Wednesday owner, and ultimately, they should have an easy chance of doing so because of the vast amount of support they will receive for simply taking over from Chansiri.
Plenty of issues are afoot at the club, whether it is the uncertainty with the players, staff, Hillsborough stadium, and Middlewood training ground, and clarity will be needed from the off.
Since the conclusion of the 2024/25 Championship season, communication has been minimal from the club, something that is not the fault of the staff, who likely faced uncertainty with their wages, but more due to the situation that Chansiri created.
Sheffield Wednesday fans will demand a clear plan from the new owners, whoever they are, in that way, the club and the supporters, and the relationship between the two can soon be repaired.
