Edinburgh residents have been warned of ‘heavy downpour’ that could be on the way after days of warmth.

The Met Office has said cooler temperatures will move in by Sunday evening, and while Monday morning might start with some sun – things are set to take a turn. At around 10am, heavy rain will begin and continue throughout the day.

Tuesday will bring ‘sunny spells with showers’, along with temperatures of around 19C. This comes after temperatures peaked at 28C over the weekend.

According to the BBC, thundery conditions will hit at around 1pm on July 14. They’ve predicted a ‘band of showery rain’ along with a ‘risk of thunder’.

The Met Office forecast for Sunday evening reads: “Clouding over across Edinburgh, Lothian and Borders this evening, remaining cloudy overnight.

“Clear across the southwest with evening sunshine but clouding over here later in the night. Minimum temperature 14C.”

Looking ahead to Monday, they added: “Outbreaks of rain, occasionally heavy, will spread northeast for a time in the morning and early afternoon.

“Then becoming dry and eventually brighter. Warm. Maximum temperature 20C.”

BBC Weather had similar predictions. Looking to Monday, they said: “A fresher day with a band of showery rain pushing northeastwards, with a risk of thunder.

“The south will see sunshine developing from the west in the afternoon and evening.”
