The facility, located at Andover War Memorial Hospital, will form part of the Andover Community Diagnostic Centre and is designed to improve access to advanced diagnostic imaging.

It will house a new MRI scanner alongside the existing CT building, as well as a modern reception and clinical areas to support patient care.

A ground-breaking ceremony was held to mark the start of construction of the MRI building. (Image: Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust) Alex Whitfield, chief executive officer at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: “This valuable new addition to our Andover Community Diagnostic Centre will make a real difference to so many of our patients, improving access to diagnostic imaging and offering an even greater patient experience using the latest technology.

“We’re looking forward to be able to open the doors to this fantastic facility very soon – a big thank you to all our colleagues and partners who have enabled us to reach this major milestone.”

Construction began following a ground-breaking ceremony attended by staff from Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, project supporters and contractors.

The building is expected to be completed and operational later this year.

The MRI facility aims to provide better and more efficient patient access to scans, as well as an enhanced patient experience.
