Thunder could be coming to Liverpool tomorrow after a weekend of scorching hot weather. Temperatures reached highs of 32C yesterday afternoon in Liverpool as part of a country-wide heatwave.
This was hotter than Barcelona, which had a high of 27C. Scousers certainly made the most of it, with hundreds flocking to Crosby beach. There was some creativity on display as a makeshift water slide was set up as people enjoyed the hot weather.
Families on two different streets in Walton were also seen setting up paddling pools in the street to let their children cool down. Temperatures cooled slightly today, with highs of around 29C and warm, sunny spells. Next week is set to be cooler however, with rain forecast for the region.
The BBC’s weather forecast is predicting highs of 22C on Monday afternoon and lows of 12C, with “thundery showers and a moderate breeze”. Rain is expected to start at around 9am and continue into the afternoon.
At 1pm, thunder and lightning is predicted to hit the city. After that it is set to brighten, with cloudy spells followed by lots of sun from 5pm until sunset just after 9.30pm. Temperatures are predicted to fall to 15C by 11pm.
The BBC’s forecast for Merseyside reads: “Tomorrow morning will turn mostly cloudy, with some showers pushing in from the south-west, these locally heavy and possibly thundery. In the late afternoon, see plenty of sunshine appear.”

Patches of rain are expected to continue throughout the week. The BBC forecast for Tuesday to Thursday says: “Tuesday is going to be quite unsettled with outbreaks of rain pushing in, and a risk of thunder.
“The rain will be more persistent in the morning. Wednesday will see a sunnier day, though patches of cloud may bring the odd shower in the afternoon.
“Thursday is expected to be rather cloudy with the chance of a few light showers, particularly in the afternoon.”
More thunder could also be on the way later next week, according to the BBC, with more “thundery showers” predicted on Sunday, July 20 and Monday, July 21.
The Met Office is not currently predicting thunder for the region but it says showers should be expected from midday until 2pm tomorrow.
The weather agency said it will be “cloudy, changing to sunny intervals by late morning.”
The Met Office forecast for the North West of England on Monday says: “A cloudier start to the new week, with bands of heavy and perhaps thundery showers spreading north-eastwards.
“Some drier and brighter interludes are possible. Increasingly breezy and feeling a little fresher. Maximum temperature 24C.”
