Harrow has missed out on the latest round of funding from the Mayor of London to support high streets across the capital — but nearby areas in Hillingdon and Ealing will benefit.
Announced on Friday 11 July, the £600,000 investment will see 12 high streets each receive £50,000 from Sadiq Khan’s High Street Place Labs (HSPL) programme. The funding is part of a wider commitment to boost local economies, improve public spaces, and attract investment.
While Harrow wasn’t among the boroughs selected, both Hayes in Hillingdon and West Ealing have been included.
The Mayor said: “I‘m determined to protect, restore and improve London’s high streets – which is why I’m so pleased to provide this new funding for boroughs across the capital that will help them grow and thrive.
“My High Street Place Labs programme plays an important role in driving progress on the London Growth Plan, which will deliver economic growth in every corner of our city to raise living standards, put more money in people’s pockets and enable us to invest in our public services.”
The funding will help boroughs bring empty shops back into use, improve accessibility, grow the night-time economy, and create more affordable workspaces — particularly for key sectors like green industries and the creative sector.
The 12 locations were selected following an open call to all London local authorities. The programme is funded by City Hall and the UK government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
