Mogadishu, July 14, 2025 – The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, H.E. Abdisalam Abdi Ali, received the United Kingdom’s Ambassador to Somalia, H.E. Charles King, on Monday at his office in the Ministry in the capital, Mogadishu, and discussed with him ways to strengthen bilateral relations and enhance cooperation in the areas of security, politics, and development.
The discussion focused on the ongoing security transition in Somalia, with both sides acknowledging the important role of the United Kingdom in supporting the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), which has succeeded the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS). The Minister expressed appreciation for the UK’s continued contribution to peacebuilding efforts.
Both parties underscored the importance of sustained international support for Somali-led security initiatives, particularly in the fight against Al-Shabaab. The meeting reaffirmed the shared commitment of Somalia and the United Kingdom to deepening diplomatic engagement and advancing collaborative efforts in security and development.
