There’s no question that Sydney Sweeney is one of the most popular actresses on the planet. And, yes, anyone who follows her Instagram account, or has seen her in The White Lotus, or Anyone But You, will agree she often looks like she could be on the cover of an old pulp paperback. In fact, imagining Sweeney on the cover of a James Bond novel from the 1950s, or in the 007 movie poster art of Robert McGinnis, feels perfectly natural.
From sex appeal to the ability to sell an action role combined with real drama and pathos, Sweeney can do it all. (Immaculate alone is proof she’s got range.) So, it makes sense that rumors are circulating that Sweeney could be the next Bond Girl. From tabloids like The Sun to Cosmo in the U.K., rumors suggest that Sweeney is not only in talks to star in the next James Bond movie but that she and director Denis Villeneuve are friends.

Even if there’s truth to these rumors — and there might be — there is one catch in the idea of Sweeney joining the next James Bond movie. As perfect as it might sound, we have no idea yet who is playing Bond, meaning, it’s unclear if that chemistry even makes sense. While many, many beautiful and talented actresses have starred opposite the various Bonds on screen, many of those films live and die by the onscreen chemistry, or lack thereof.
Roger Moore and Barbara Bach in The Spy Who Loved Me? Amazing. Ditto Daniel Craig and the incredible Eva Green in Casino Royale. But, perhaps the less said about Pierce Brosnan and Denise Richards in The World is Not Enough, the better. (Both great actors, by the way!)
So, when we think of Sweeney in a Bond movie, aesthetically, it seems perfect. But it doesn’t answer the question of chemistry.
And, perhaps even more importantly, there’s no reason to believe that if Sweeney ended up in a Bond movie, she’s reappearing in another. Bond Girls tend not to show up in sequels, unless we’re talking about Moneypenny or Madeleine Swann. If Sweeney is in the new James Bond movie, she’s almost certainly going to only appear once. And, both Sweeney fans and for Bond fans, will that really be enough?
The next James Bond movie from Amazon/MGM is currently in production.
