Celtic’s next pre-season game sees them return to a ground they have previous history with.

Sporting CP await Celtic in the fourth game of pre-season where Brendan Rodgers’ side will end their eight-day training camp in Lisbon.

The Hoops lost 3-2 to Estrela da Amadora in their third outing as several international stars featured for the first time.

Unlike the Estrela game, fans will be able to attend the game at the Estadio Algarve – a place some may remember from a previous pre-season venture.

Celtic once competed in the Algarve Challenge Cup in 2008

Back in July 2008, Celtic were one of four teams invited to play in the inaugural Algarve Challenge Cup.

Alongside Celtic were three other sides: Middlesbrough, Cardiff City and Vitoria Guimaraes.

The format was a bizarre one to say the least after they turned it into a modified league system.

Each game would see teams earn the usual three points for a win and one for a draw, however, an extra point would be added for every goal scored so that the tournament would promote an attacking brand of football.

All teams would only play two games too as Celtic faced off against Middlesbrough and Cardiff, but not Vitoria.

Their first game would see Celtic draw 1-1 with Middlesbrough but lose to Cardiff 1-0 in their second match-up as the Welsh club would be crowned champions of the tournament.

How to get to the Estadio Algarve

For any Celtic fans heading to the game, this step-by-step guide below will provide you with the easiest way to get to the ground.

Located 8km away from the city of Faro, the Estadio Algarve has a train station right next to the stadium and is accessible from Faro, Loule and any other nearby regional towns.

There are plenty of trains throughout the day Faro and Parque das Cidades and takes about six minutes by rail before a 15-minute walk to the ground.

If travelling by car, the stadium is situated next to the A22 motorway which runs across the Algarve and links up with the A2 that takes you to Lisbon further west.

When driving along the A22, take exit 13 towards Faro and then merge onto the IC-4, and leave the IC-4 again at the first exit to arrive.
