Residents have been told to keep their doors and windows closed as fire crews battle a large house fire this evening, Wednesday, July 16.

Firefighters are working to extinguish a blaze at a property along Falcondale Road in the Westbury-on-Trym area of the city.

Avon Fire and Rescue Service has warned nearby residents to keep doors and windows closed to prevent smoke from blowing into their homes.

Multiple crews are at the scene as well as Avon and Somerset Police.

Pictures taken by a witness shows flames engulfing the roof of a property as thick black smoke billows into the sky.

They told BristolLive: “Fire and police still at scene no ambulances were required thankfully.

“Falcondale Road closed from Henbury Hill to Greystoke Avenue.”

Drivers have been asked to avoid the area and to find alternative routes where possible.

A spokesperson for Avon Fire and Rescue Service said: “We’re responding to a fire on Falcondale Road, Westbury-on-Trym.

“We advise local residents to keep your doors and windows closed while we extinguish the fire to stop smoke coming into your homes.

“Falcondale Road is currently closed in both directions, please avoid travelling in the area or take a different route where possible.

“We will provide further updates as soon as possible.”
