Met Office weather maps show the exact day a band of rain will hit Wales just in time for the school holidays. Wales experienced a scorching heatwave last week and was actually the hottest place in the UK on Saturday (July 12) with temperatures reaching a very warm 33°C, but it didn’t last too long.
While rain is on the way, Wales is on the verge of a new heatwave, but sadly rain is on the way just in time for the start of the summer holidays. Instead, the break looks like they it start of with miserable weather, with a risk of thunder and hail.
A UK heatwave threshold is met when a location records a period of at least three consecutive days with daily maximum temperatures meeting or exceeding the heatwave temperature threshold, which is 25°C in Wales. Temperatures in parts of the country including Monmouth, Newport, and Wrexham, are forecast to hit 24-25°C on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. However, there will be patchy rain from Thursday.
The Met Office forecast for Thursday: “Cloudy start with patchy rain and drizzle across the hills. Brighter spells breaking through during the afternoon as coastal and hill fog lifts, though ongoing chance of a shower. Humid. Maximum temperature 25 °C.”
However, from Friday, it’s set to get even wetter. The forecast says: “Warm with further scattered showers on Friday before becoming more widely unsettled from Saturday. Showers may be heavy or blustery at times, carrying the risk of thunder and hail.”
