Wakefield Trinity

Wakefield Trinity have announced the signing of prop Tray Lolesio ahead of next season. Lolesio has put pen to paper on a two-year deal in a move that will take him from Queensland Cup outfit Redcliffe Dolphins to West Yorkshire.

The 22-year-old becomes the third overseas signing announced by Wakefield ahead of next season, following Tyson Smoothy and Jazz Tevaga and he strengthens Daryl Powell’s front-row unit considerably.

Lolesio hasn’t made a first grade appearance just yet, with his senior career to date being spent in the Queensland Cup. However, he has made 24 appearances for the Dolphins since making his debut last year.

In the 14 outings he has made this season, the forward has made 264 tackles with a success rate of 94.6 per cent, 480.1 metres post contact and eight offloads with a average gain of 87m per game.

Wakefield have seen success from shopping in Australia’s second string competition with Caius Faatili the most obvious example of that this year, and they’ll be hoping Lolesio can make a similar impact.

Head coach Daryl Powell said of his latest signing: “We have had great success in signing young middle unit players from Australia and we feel Tray is going to have the same impact for us.

“He is a quality go forward player with a great work ethic who will complement our pack superbly. I look forward to seeing Tray in the Wakefield colours next season.”

Recruitment manager Ste Mills added: “We’re absolutely thrilled to bring Tray on board. He’s been outstanding in the Q Cup — strong, skilful, and full of energy. We see real potential in him, and we’re confident he’ll thrive here at Wakefield Trinity and excite our fans.”

On making the move to Belle Vue, Lolesio told the club: “I’m proud to be joining Wakefield from 2026. I’m extremely grateful to the club for giving me the opportunity to come and ply my trade over in the UK. I can see the ambition of where the club is going and I can’t wait to be part of something great and meet all you Wakefield fans next year.”
