Leeds United are attempting to complete a deal with Hoffenheim to secure the signing of Anton Stach.

The Whites look to have already bolstered their midfield this summer, after finally agreeing a deal for the signing of Sean Longstaff from Newcastle United.

But Daniel Farke is keen to add further depth to his options, with Stach among the targets under consideration at Elland Road.

Leeds have already made several signings this summer, including Swedish left-back Gabriel Gudmundsson.

Leeds’ midfield was a key area of attention for transfer chiefs at Elland Road ahead of the summer.

The departures of Joe Rothwell and Joshua Guilavogui had left Farke’s options lacking, with a long and strenuous Premier League season requiring depth.

The signing of Longstaff will add a much-needed font of league experience to the Leeds midfield, but further additions are required.

The Whites have now turned to Hoffenheim midfielder Stach with talks underway, according to Sky Sports in Germany (July 16).

Bundesliga club Stuttgart are also interested in the midfielder, but the feeling at Hoffenheim is that Stach is set to join Leeds.

No agreement has been reached yet, and the Sinsheim-based club are expected to demand around £17.5million plus bonuses.

Personal terms between Stach and Leeds have already been agreed, with the 26-year-old ready to make the switch.

Stach would add necessary mettle

The Premier League is arguably the most physically demanding footballing league in the world.

Jam-packed with teams capable of endless pressing and full of tall, strong midfielders, it can be a difficult home for the lighter technicians.

Leeds’ pursuit of Stach would work to directly counteract that. The German is rugged, and gritty.

Long-legged and sturdy, the midfielder can often be spotted diving into challenges and using his body to shrug off his opposing man.

But that is not to undermine his technical ability, with Stach capable of finding long, raking passes across the pitch to an on-running winger.

The Germany international also possesses a key trait for Leeds eyes, availability – Stach rarely misses a match through injury and was largely ever-present for Hoffenheim last season.
