Over the years, author Colleen Hoover has captured the world with her stories and sold over 20 million copies of her novels. So, of course, it’s no surprise that some of her best-selling books have become or are becoming major movie adaptations.
On August 2024, Hoover’s first movie hit theatres with It Ends With Us, starring Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni.
Before the legal drama between Lively and Baldoni unfolded, Hoover gushed about the experience of seeing her story on the big screen. “I’m able to separate it in the sense that I see the book and the film as two completely separate things,” she told The Hollywood Reporter. “But at the same time, I think they did such a good job condensing this book into a film that I’m very happy with this adaptation.”
Since It Ends With Us, three books of Hoover have been acquired for movie adaptations, including her 2018 novel, Verity, which wrapped filming in April 2025 and will star Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett.

‘It Ends With Us’
Image Credit: ©Sony Pictures Releasing/courtesy Everett Collection, AmazonIt Ends With Us, starring Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, was Hoover’s very first movie release.
The novel follows flower shop owner Lily Bloom (Lively) as she meets a seemingly too-good-to-be-true neurosurgeon called Ryle Kincaid (Baldoni). But as the two fall in love, and Ryle’s violent behavior begins to escalate, Lily reconnects with her first love, Atlas Corrigan (Brandon Sklenar).
While Hoover’s fans were excited about the release, the legal drama that soon ensued between the stars quickly overshadowed any box office success. As a reminder, Lively sued Baldoni and his studio, Wayfarer Studios, for sexual harassment and retaliation via a PR smear campaign, while Baldoni countersued Lively and the New York Times for defamation.
The movie was released on August 9, 2024.

‘Verity’
Image Credit: Jose Perez/Bauer-Griffin/GC ImagesHoover’s second novel to hit theaters will be Verity, a standalone book she was released in 2018. The rights to the movie were acquired by Amazon MGM Studios in May 2024, and Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett will make up the cast.
Verity follows struggling writer Lowen (Johnson) as she accepts an unusual job: to complete the books written by bestselling author Verity Crawford (Hathaway) after she’s left too injured to continue. But as Lowen digs through Verity’s office, she finds a hidden autobiography with her deep, dark secrets. As she starts developing feelings for Verity’s husband, Jeremy (Hartnett), she starts to wonder if it’s finally time to reveal her secrets to the world.
Filming for the movie adaptation officially wrapped in April 2025. Hathaway announced the news on her Instagram, sharing a video of her in character flipping through the book and the movie’s script. “So Be It… that’s a wrap on the #VerityMovie production!” the Oscar winner wrote in the caption.
“Thank you for everything, it was such a wonderful experience!” Hoover wrote in the comments. “I can’t wait to see it all come together. You. Are. Amazing. 😍

Universal Studios bought the rights to Reminders of Him in October 2024. Maika Monroe and Tyriq Withers were cast as the main characters, per Deadline, and Love at First Sight director Vanessa Caswill is set to direct. The movie is projected to hit the big screen in February 2026.
