“Whether it’s a warm welcome in Scotland, a design-led retreat in England, or a culinary gem in Wales, this year’s winners represent everything that’s special about independent UK hospitality.
“They go beyond offering a bed for the night – they offer character, comfort and care that stays with you long after check-out.”
This year Plas Dinas Country House in Bontnewydd, Caernarfon, North Wales, was named Wales’ AA Restaurant with Rooms of the Year.
A stunning grade-II listed property which dates back to the mid-17th century, Plas Dinas was formerly the home of the Armstong-Jones family, connected to the Royal Family through the marriage of Princess Margaret to Antony Armstrong-Jones, 1st Earl of Snowdon.
AA inspectors praised the hotel, set in stunning grounds, for its “sympathetic renovation” which is “enhanced by superb quality throughout”.

Each of its 10 bedrooms have been designed to reflect a person of role within the family, including the magnificent Princess Margaret suite which includes memorabilia from her wedding to Lord Snowdon. Inspectors were impressed by the “spacious sumptuous bedrooms” and the “stylish bathrooms”.

According to the AA inspectors, it offers “imaginative dinners in the Gun Room which create lasting impressions” as well as “comprehensive hearty breakfasts”.

For an indulgent daytime treat, Plas Dinas offers afternoon tea served in either the Drawing Room or the Dining room, accompanied by jazz music.
The hotel was also praised for its “warm hospitality” where “residents feel like honoured guests rather than paying customers.”
For those who like to arrive in style, Plas Dinas even allows helicopters to land in its grounds. The hotel even recommends booking a helicopter tour around Anglesey or Caernarfon and returning in time for afternoon tea.
